Production Manager

Job Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the safety, quality, productivity, cost, and team member development within their respective department. The team member will do this by implementing improvements based on the department’s key point indicators (KPIs). Results are achieved by ensuring cohesive team workmanship, being actively involved in the department floor leadership, and using company systems such as floor management development systems (FMDS), JKK, and process controls.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage operations in production areas
  • Learn, understand, and enforce policies and procedures and company handbook
  • Learn, understand, and use internal training, systems, and tools within the company
  • Learn, understand, and comply with TS/IATF16949 and ISO 14001 standards
  • Maintain a clean and organized department through daily 5S activity by shop floor Gemba walks
  • Full understanding of all processes; controlled SWC, FMEA, control plan, flow chart, JKK process control check sheet; ensure all documents are up to date using internal administrative support groups
  • Prepare detailed plans for achieving department goals outlined on FMDS boards
  • Ensure main and sub-KPIs of safety, quality, productivity, cost, and team member development are tracked daily and trending appropriately on shop floor and managers boards
  • Engage and coach team members in daily FMDS meetings, focus on PFS items
  • Conduct monthly layered audits and ensure daily/weekly audits are completed by leadership
  • Engage team at daily group FMDS meeting with all departments

Safety

  • Understanding of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations – “Duties of a Supervisor”
  • Drives activity for zero lost time accidents, reduction in medical aid, first aid and property damage
  • Focus on preventative actions and monthly safety zone audits

Quality

  • Drive activity to reduce internal/external and potential PPM and KPM
  • Make use of internal 5P tools to address root cause and assign temporary and long-term corrective actions
  • Use Voice of the Customer board process flow; JKK audit process, use 5P tools to solve problems, present JKK findings and 5P analysis, audit with upper management, track for 20 days on FMDS issues; follow layer audit systems

Productivity

  • Drive activity to improve efficiencies and maintain inventory levels
  • Track OEE, follow production plans, support trials, PM schedules and address downtime problems

Cost

  • Drive activity to meet budgeted manpower targets, process reduction in hours and scrap
  • Drive activity to meet the company’s overall bottom line and profitability
  • Use pulse system to money according to the planned budget

Team Member Development

  • Ensure all leadership has completed internal training programs
  • Ensure all team members have completed room & on-the-job training
  • Support engagement in our Kaizen program
  • Engage team at monthly budget meeting with all departments
  • Report weekly KPIs and department activities at weekly managers meeting
  • Support company growth through layout changes, model launches and Bukai activities at other locations
  • Daily interactions and communication with all departments
  • Other duties as required to support a 3 shift 24 hour/day operation

Additional Responsibilities

  • Part production; review production plan with production control team, follow up with leadership to ensure targets are being met
  • Identify potential hazards and obtain support from Health and Safety team to eliminate or mitigate risk
  • Assist with alleviating ergonomic issues by recognizing possible hazards with the support of Health and Safety
  • Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning and launching of new production lines; ensure Coordinator is completing any/all necessary tasks required by New Projects department
  • Budget and cost requirements; justify and sign off on Ringisho spending, participation in creating the budget as well as monitoring to ensure that team members are staying within constraints of the budget
  • Coordinator immediately responsible for leading team; for any escalated concerns, this team member must handle disputes when needed within the department
  • Responsible for identifying appropriate timing and individuals for promotions/demotions/dismissal
  • Support Coordinator with manpower requirements/requests
  • Ensure changes and notices are communicated with the department
  • Attending to unexpected concerns; dealing with machine breakdowns and spills
  • Monitor customer requirements; review and determine future increases or decreases in production based on those needs
  • Customer visits; preparing the department so everything is ready upon customer arrival
  • Company meetings; preparing and presenting findings at team meetings and management meetings

Job Qualifications

Education

  • Successful completion of a minimum two-year business administration or engineering technology diploma program from a college
  • Certified Management certificate

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of leadership/supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Minimum 2 years of managerial experience in a manufacturing setting
  • 10 years of automotive manufacturing experience

  • Detail oriented when handling records, documents and budgets
  • Experienced in using Databases, AS 400, Microsoft Office or similar software
  • Must demonstrate resourcefulness and versatility when problem solving
